Yesterday Luci and I walked around the city. We went to the Temple of Literature, which is dedicated to the esteemed (in Vietnam, anyway) profession of teaching. We walked around the outside of the military museum with its captured aircraft from "The American War". We saw a giant statue of Lenin and then a photo shoot with models... Wonder what he thinks of that?
For dinner we went to the #1 Trip Advisor rated restaurant for a 5 course gourmet meal. The appetizers, the soup, and dessert were amazing. The lamb? Not trimmed very well and the red wine reduction was more of a ketchup reduction sauce. Being American made us a bit of celebrities and the chef came out to chat with us. He was so enthusiastic I couldn't complain about the sauce. The dessert of hot pomegranate cake with ice cream may have been the best thing I've eaten on this trip of great eating, so far.
We walked back to the hotel through streets teeming with people: European backpackers and Australian families but mostly local people out on a Saturday night.
